I must admit I was surprised, that they are not (as yet) broadcasting the first Ring Cycle (the matinée cycle playing over four Saturdays). Still room for changes, I suppose, though the programme does look splendid, indeed.

  2. What? No Don Giovanni? Isn't that in the 08-09 season?

  3. Yes they are playing Don Giovanni next season, but it´s the old production, that has already been released on DVD, so perhaps that´s why they chose not to broadcast it.

  4. Thanks for posting this. My neighbors' daughter, Mara Blumenfeld, is the costume designer for both "Lucia" and "Sonnambula" and I know they are going to be thrilled.

  5. Perhaps your list is accurate; However, in the past all Met HD broadcasts have also been Met radio broadcasts. This list has three HD broadcasts before the radio broadcasts begin on November 29. You never know.

  6. The current Met production of Don Giovanni has not been released on DVD.

  7. I was told that the production filmed in 2000 with Terfel and Fleming is still the current one, but obviously if a new one has come out since then it hasn´t been filmed. Thanks for pointing that out..

Regarding the schedule - no guarantees for the accuracy of course, but the MET has officially stated that HD transmissions will begin in October next season.

  8. The "Giovanni" with Terfel and Fleming is the reworked Zefferelli production. The current staging is by Marthe Keller and it is the world's worst kept secret that Gelb hates it and is going to replace it ASAP. That would mitigate it being an HD transmission. Also, I've been told that the Zefferelli sets have been destroyed so no revival there.

  9. I'm surprised they aren't doing the matinee Rusalka on March 14th. They don't stage that one very often.

  10. It would be nice to get the Ring; but I'm sure Gelb is going to hold on to scheduling that until the new production that he'll be in charge of and not the last revival of one that is already on DVD.

  11. I agree with David. Omitting Rusalka was a real oversight. As for the Ring, that tired production is available on DVD and anon is doubltlessly right when he says that Gelb is holding out for his Ring.
