Metropolitan Opera markets their HD transmissions as "family events". As a consequence of this misguided prudish gesture, the upcoming October 11th Salome HD transmission will not feature nudity (in Jürgen Flimm´s production Karita Mattila undresses for about 2 seconds at the end of the Dance of Seven Veils). Kissing a dead man´s mouth apparently doesn´t impose a threat on family values...
For those present in the theater the Salome performance will proceed as usual.

Remember Salome with Mattila in Paris? 2003?
It was not really surprising to see her undressed in NY, one year later.
Just ridiculous! And typical for wrongly interpreted values.... never midn the violence and the killing, Karita's bare back, now that is a problem! pffttt!! As if there would eb tonnes of children under 10 years old watching it anyway...
It might be that Karita herself has requested this. It has been argued that there is a world of difference between 'live' and 'captured in close up to be replayed and repeated on YouTube'
But Gelb didn't say either of those. A very sick society that finds murder and necrophilia preferable to naked front-bottoms.
Gert - that is a good point, if true. Wouldn´t blame Karita Mattila for not wanting her naked body posted all over the internet, and accompanying her for the rest of her career.
In truth, I don´t think it has much impact on the Salome production, whether she appears naked or not.
